What is producer responsibility?
Are you a producer or importer (reseller) who brings products such as appliances, lamps, batteries, or (bicycle) batteries to the Dutch market for the first time? Then the legal producer responsibility applies to you. Stichting OPEN helps you fulfill this responsibility together.
You can easily and quickly register for this. Simply register and report annually how many products you bring to the Dutch market. Are you a producer or importer of solar panels or vapes? Then please check our files on these topics as well
Why producer responsibility?
Producer responsibility stems from European regulations. For appliances and/or lamps, we refer you to the Regulation for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). For batteries and (bicycle) batteries, you will find information in the Battery Regulation.
If you, as a producer/importer/reseller, bring electrical appliances, lamps, batteries, and/or (bicycle) batteries to the Dutch market for the first time, the legal producer responsibility applies to you. Are you unsure? Then first, take the check.
Device or product

I am a producer, importer, or reseller. What are the next steps?
Register
If you are a producer or importer, it is mandatory to register with Stichting OPEN. This can be done quickly and easily through our portal, myOPEN:
After registration, we will contact you to explain a few further points.
Report
It is legally required to report the quantities and weights of the products you have imported. This also applies if you have produced these products yourself and brought them to the Dutch market. These so-called Put on Market data should be submitted via our online portal, MyOPEN.
Based on your submission, the waste management contribution will be determined. This contribution is used for the collection, sorting, and processing of discarded appliances, lamps, and/or batteries. Through producer responsibility, discarded products are recycled into new raw materials or given a second life.
Collection and Recycling
As a producer or importer, you are also responsible for the collection and recycling of products when they are discarded. We will take care of this with you, via wecycle.nl and wecyclevoorbedrijven.nl.
Missing a producer or importer?
Do you know of a party that you believe is an importer and/or producer of appliances, lamps, or batteries but is not listed among the registered importers/producers? You can report this party to us by calling or emailing:
